New Canadian Music

Juno-nominated folk singer-songwriter John Wort Hannam has won a Canadian Folk Music Award, a Galaxie Rising Star Award and a Kerrville New Folk title (at the prestigious Texas folk fest). It's easy to understand these accolades when you listen to his compelling new album Love Lives On, his sixth full-length. A key song here is "Man Of God", one that tackles the tragic legacy of residential schools and which was featured at the closing ceremonies of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Helping give it emotional and lyrical authenticity is the fact Hannam used to be a school teacher on a reserve in Southern Alberta --"Man of God," which was featured at the closing ceremonies of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He employs a rich and resonant voice to give life to his strong original songs. The album is produced expertly by Leeroy Stagger, one of our fave Canadian roots-rockers.

Hannam toured extensively out west in the summer and he's now in the middle of another tour that includes a Nov. 12 Toronto show at the Burdock. Check his site for a full itinerary.
